Last Friday, we successfully held the grand launch of the British Indonesian Lawyers Association (𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐀). The event marked a strong beginning to stronger collaborations between Indonesia and the UK.

The event was opened by Arvin Raharja (BILA Founder; Foreign Attorney at TMI Associates), who provided an introduction to BILA’s mission and objectives, followed by keynote speeches from leading figures:

▪️Harun Reksodiputro (Consultative Board Member of BritCham Indonesia; Founding Partner of Ginting & Reksodiputro in association with A&O Shearman);
▪️Prof. Otto Hasibuan (Chair of Perhimpunan Advokat Indonesia (PERADI); Deputy Coordinating Minister of Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrective Institutions); and
▪️Richard Atkinson (President of The Law Society).

Prof. Ioannis Kokkoris (Professor of Law at Queen Mary University of London) then delivered a public lecture on “𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘚𝘶𝘣𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴, 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘋𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴,” focusing on the balance between national protection and foreign investment. Last but not least, we had an engaging discussion with the topic of “𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘹 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘓𝘢𝘸 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦”, which featured:
